AIR⁺ Smart Mask redefines Protective Mask Technology with the world’s first attachable Micro Ventilator
Singapore, 27 October 2015 – ST Engineering’s subsidiary Innosparks is launching versions of the AIR⁺ Smart Mask for the industrial and healthcare segments at the A+A International Trade Fair, the largest trade fair for workplace safety and health, in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The AIR⁺ Smart Mask combines two products – an ergonomic protective mask (the Smart Mask) designed for superior fit, and the world’s first attachable micro ventilator (the AIR⁺) that reduces the build-up of heat, moisture and carbon dioxide trapped inside protective masks
after prolonged use at work.
Engineering a much-needed revolution in protective masks
Conventional masks available today do not address the persistent discomfort of extended mask use or the dangers of re-breathing exhaled carbon dioxide. In such masks, carbon dioxide concentration can be as high as 3% or 100 times, that of normal air. Wearers often suffer breathing difficulty due to humidity and heat, as well dizziness, reduced alertness and headaches, all of which are symptoms of re-breathing carbon dioxide. Making breathing comfort and ease a design goal, engineers at Innosparks developed the revolutionary AIR⁺ Smart Mask system.
The AIR⁺ Smart Mask eliminates the problem of discomfort in conventional mask usage, while delivering unrivalled comfort and ease of use.
The premium Smart Mask is designed to wrap around facial contours for an ergonomic fit, with plush cushioning at the nose clip for added comfort. 3D scanning was used to develop a comprehensive database of facial geometries and a proprietary software algorithm extracted the key facial parameters to develop an ergonomic fit for adult faces.
“Taking a fresh new look at existing masks and their limitations, we focused on improving fit and comfort for prolonged use. To do so, we applied our engineering and technical skill sets to challenge the status quo and invented what we can confidently say is the next generation of respirators.” said Mr Fong Saik Hay, Chief Technology Officer of ST Engineering.
The Smart Mask is available in three levels of protection – FFP1, FFP2, FFP3. All are compatible with the AIR⁺ Micro Ventilator and suitable for use in most work conditions.
Breathable cool comfort as you work
The innovative AIR⁺ Micro Ventilator is designed to maximise comfort while wearing the Smart Mask in harsh work conditions. The AIR⁺ Micro Ventilator snaps on to the Smart Mask, transforming the mask into one with better performance and comfort. A world’s first, the AIR⁺ Micro Ventilator extracts heat, moisture and accumulated CO2 from within the mask, while circulating cool and fresh air as you work.
The innovative AIR⁺ is lightweight and rechargeable by micro USB. It can reduce relative humidity inside the face by up to 40%, reduce temperature by up to 4°C and bring carbon dioxide levels within the mask down to a mere 0.08%.
Certified comfort. Maximum productivity
The AIR⁺ Micro Ventilator is certified to the highest European standards EN149:2001+A1:2009.
“The AIR⁺ Smart Mask is innovation in action. From what we know, it is the world’s first respiratory mask to offer such as advanced means of protection for wearers. We have arrived at an elegant solution to close the gap in today’s protective masks and make a difference in people’s lives,” Mr Fong added.
